The Remembrance Day in Albania

The Remembrance Day or what all Albanians call the Martyr’s Day is on May 5th and it's the anniversary of Qemal Stafa's death. Knowing the history of Albania and all the sacrifices that our nation has done to gain it's freedom it's understandable why this is a date of such importance.
It is not just the remembrance of Qemal Stafa's act but also a day to honor all the martyrs that gave their life for their nation's independence, especially the 28 000 that perished during World War II.
On this day all the leaders of our country, like the prime minister and the president go to the Graveyard of Martyrs and pay their respects leaving floral wreaths on their grave. Then they also go visit the families of the martyrs. It's a day when we can thank those who has guaranteed our freedom.

The exercises!

I finally did it!!! :D

Researchers say they have identified animal fossils from 27 000 000 years ago in what is now •Ethiopia. The remains are from the middle of a time called the "missing years" or the "dark period ." This is because scientists have so little information about the mammals that lived then. The period began 32 million years ago. Africa and Arabia were a single continent, a huge island known as Afro - Arabia. The period ended 24 000 000 years ago, after a land bridge formed with Eurasia.

John Kappelman is an anthropologist at the university of Texas in ••st•n and leader of the american and ethiopian search team. Mr Kappelman says 8 000 000 years is a long time to lack information about a continent. He says scientists have only been able to guess what happened to African mammals during that period. The remains found in the Chilga area of Ethiopia offer important evidence.

The remains include tooth, skull pieces and other bones. The scientists found them in a farming area about 2000 meters above sea level, in the highlands of Ethiopia. Satellite pictures helped the researchers decode where to dig. The fossils came from About 70 different digs. The magazine N•t•r• published the findings. The scientists say the fossils came from before large numbers of animals began to arrive in Africa from europe and Asia. The fossils also show that some animals existed millions of years before scientists had thought.

The researchers found several kinds of ancient pr•b•sc•d••ns. These are animals with trunks. Modern elephants are pr•b•sc•d••ns. Scientists have long thought elephants began in Africa. They say this discovery proves that theory. The ancestors weighed about 1000 kilograms, a lot smaller than African elephants today.

John Kappelman says the elephant ancestors were one of the few african mammals that survived the invasion of mammals from euro-asia. He says elephants got their start in africa during the eight - million - year period, and then spread around the world. The researchers also found the remains of an ancient animal with two horns on its head, called the •rs•n••th•r•. The scientists were excited, because this is the youngest set of such remains yet discovered. The animal is much larger than its ancestors. Earlier forms were about the size of pigs. But the •rs•n••th•r• found at Chilga was about two meters tall and weighed more than two tons.

They were similar to the modern rhinoceros. The two are not related. In fact, scientists thought •rs•n••th•r•s had disappeared from the Afro - Arabian continent once rhinos arrived from Euroasia. One researcher says it now appears they did not compete for survival. Scientists say they expect more discoveries to come about the mammals that lived during the so - called missing years.

Project: Flea Markets

Flea Markets in Albania are really popular. You can find them almost in every street and Albanians prefer this way of shopping. There they can find almost everything they want with reasonable prices. In Tirana the most popular flea market is the one called "Çamët". It is opened everyday usually from 8:00 AM to 16:00 PM. People there can find different items such as clothes electrical goods, cosmetics etc. Even though the quality of the products sold isn't the best, this Flea Market is a great destination for something cheap you may want to buy or even for a nice gift to a friend.
Another flea market is the one in Kruja city.It is mainly a tourist attraction because of the items it offers. There people can find traditional objects, crafts, souvenirs and beautiful traditional costumes. This flea market is located in the street that leads you to the castle. It also sells postcards with beautiful pictures of Albania or Kruja city, postcards that can be used as memories or as a way of communicating with people abroad. Wherever you choose to go don't forget visiting these Flea Markets.
